December Challenge Winner

Congratulations to Lori, who won the December Challenge.  Lori started with the December Challenge Trio:

Then, she fell in love with the owl flannel and coordinates and bought more off the bolt to make these two adorable quilts:

Lori's December Challenge   Lori's 2nd December Challenge

The left quilt is a modified version of the Yellow Brick Road pattern, which is available for purchase here.  The right quilt is a fun four-patch design that frames the owls beautifully.

There’s still time to participate in the January challenge.  Here’s this month’s trio:

Here’s how it works:

Use at least one fabric in this Trio recognizably in any project of any size and be eligible to win a $ 25 gift certificate redeemable for merchandise.   Use a pattern we carry and earn another chance to win!

The project can be as small as a potholder or as large as a king size quilt.  Send us a picture of your completed project and be entered into a drawing for a $ 25 gift certificate.  “Completed” just means the top- it doesn’t need to be quilted and bound.

You will be entitled to one entry per fabric used in your project (e.g., use all 3 fabrics and receive 3 entries into the drawing). Use a pattern we carry and earn another chance to win!  The submission deadline is February 5 and the prize will be awarded mid to late February 2016.  If you are so inclined, we would love to display your finished project for a little while.

Glacier Star

The Glacier Star Technique of the Month began this weekend.  Our teacher is Gretchen Veteran, a certified Judy Niemeyer instructor.

Gretchen was prepared for a wide range of skill and comfort levels among her students and was ready to guide us through the very basics as needed.  So there was minimal advance preparation required for the class. This session was dedicated to the New York Beauty motif.

Gretchen showed some students how to use the template layout sheets.  Other students already had their fabrics cut and ready to go for the New York Beauty blocks.  She had everybody piece the spiked outer arc of the block and the spiked center and then showed us her pleating technique for curved piecing.

Congratulations to Theresa and Ann, who finished their New York Beauty block in class!

When we are all done, our quilts will look like this (wall hanging on the left; queen on the right):
